t’s Time to Make Some New Year’s Resolutions

January is a perfect time for promises: we all have goals we want to achieve during the coming year. Statistics show that most New Year’s resolutions center around health, diet and exercise, improving or changing family relations or work situations. Let’s admit it, however: remember you promised yourself you’d clean out that closet, but never got around to it?

Start the new year off the right way by getting rid of the clothing clutter. You know there are plenty of items gathering dust in your closet and your drawers that are simply taking up space. Forget thoughts like: “I’ll fit into them someday” or “Gee, I remember when I first wore that outfit” or even “I’m going to wear it again…one day.”

Be ruthless! Here are some tips to help you accomplish your goals:

u Forget sentiment. It may be your lucky shirt or an outfit you once loved, but if you haven’t worn it in two years, it’s time to send it elsewhere. Look at it this way: it’s taking up closet space…and it’s probably out of style, anyway!

u Toss items that don’t fit. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Whether it used to fit or you wish it would fit, get real…and get rid of it. What could be a better incentive for losing weight than the promise of a whole new wardrobe?

u Admit your fashion mistakes. Maybe it was a great deal. Maybe the salesperson told you it looked great. Perhaps you were having an “off” judgment day. Whatever your excuse, if it doesn’t look right or if you haven’t been wearing it, put it in the “out” box.

u Fix it. We all have that shirt or jacket that’s missing a button, or the zipper needs to be fixed, or the pants have to be hemmed. Stop procrastinating and just do it! Bring those items to us and we’ll be glad to take care of them for you.

Here’s our New Year’s resolution, a promise we’ve made and will continue to make: we will continue to provide superior, quality service, competitive prices and a commitment to keeping every one of our customers well-dressed and looking good!

We’re Not Perfect

We admit it…we’re not perfect! We absolutely cannot get every stain out or solve every one of your drycleaning and laundry situations. Of course, we’ll try every method and technique we know to return your items in tip-top shape, and there are ways you can help us achieve success. We’re the spot and stain experts: if anyone can get them out, we can!

u Bring your items in immediately after they’ve been stained. The faster we can work on that stain, the better the chances of getting it out. The longer a stain sets, the harder it is to remove.

u Tell us about stains on your garments. Some stains, especially beverage stains like white wine, literally become invisible and may not reappear until AFTER cleaning. Attach a note to the item if you want us to pay special attention to a stained area.

u Avoid home treatments. If your items that are “dry clean only” do get stained, please don’t try to clean them yourself. Applying water or rubbing the spot can damage the fibers of certain fabrics. Remember, we’re the experts…leave the cleaning to us!

One final note: don’t just throw those clothes out! There are many organizations that would be thrilled to have these items to donate to those less fortunate. You’ll feel great about donating your used garments, shoes, etc., to the charity of your choice. If you’re not sure what organization to call, contact your local church, synagogue or community center for information.

home laundry tip

That glittery blouse or dress you wore to the holiday party was a hit…but how can you clean it without the glitter spreading to other garments or worse, falling off? Sequined or beaded clothes require special care. If they’re labeled as machine or hand wash, it’s best to button up all the buttons and turn the item inside out before laundering.

Wash the item on the gentle cycle in cold water for no more than three minutes. If the item is hand wash only, use shampoo or some mild laundry soap with cold water. Always lay these items flat; never use the dryer!
